This is my attempt to see if I can create a poll
The 1st Edition AD&D DMG lists Howard as an influence on D&D as well as suggested reading (I also suggest this
). The elements of Howard I can see are horror, dungeon crawls (The Tower of the Elephant, Red Nails, Jewells of Gwahlur) and just plain grim, gritty butt kicking.
Every time somebody asks for a list of suggested fantasy reading Howard is always mentioned at least twice, so I wanted to know if you have read his work and how well known some of his other stories are.
My favorite is Turlogh Dubh of the Clan Na O'Brien of course with Conan and Solomon Kane as a tie for 2nd place.
-Doh! I spelled Solomon Kanes name wrong in the Poll
-Probably should have excluded Conan from the poll, oh well.
-R. E Howard is most definitetly not Heinlein, nor did he write Battlefield Earth (that's Hubbard). Howard was a very diverse and prolific author and was ony 30 when he died
Edited for clarity. Well I hope it's clear.
