[OT] Soul Calibur 2

Pulled this off The Magic Box, a usually pretty reliable source for game news.

Apparently Soul Calibur 2 for the PS2, GC, and XBox will have Heihachi, Link, and Spawn respectively as exclusive new characters. How's that for wacky?

If Link were to ever appear on the PS2 or XBOX version, you wouldn't get to enjoy it anyway.... because the world would undoubtedly be coming to a swift end. You'll see a democratic government in China before you see a high profile Nintendo icon on a Sony or Microsoft console.

I am curious as to why Namco picked Spawn for the XBOX. I guess Blinx or Master Chief wouldn't mesh very well in the Soul Calibur universe. Then again, Spawn seems a tad out of place, too, in my opinion.

Too bad we can't see Cloud or Tifa from FF7 in the SC2 ranks. Namco made them hidden characters in Energhiz.

Personally, I'm still a bit skeptical of trusting information like this. I was one of the people who was duped when told that Sonic and Tails were in Super Smash Bros. Melee. They had "screenshots" of that also, but it was still a lie.

This news has all been confirmed. In fact, some internet sites (like PGC and IGN) all but confirmed Link making in appearance in the Gamecube version many, many months ago.

There is press conference footage, numerous pics, and in-game footage of all 3 exclusive characters widely available all over the internet.

The difference between something like this and the Sonic/Tails hoax you mentioned is that baseless rumors and hoaxes generally originate on no-name or rumor mongering sites (spong.com, cube-europe.com, and cubenation.com seem to have really bad track records), but they rarely register on big name news sites, save for fanboy speculation on individual forums. It's usually fairly easy to sort out the gold from the garbage.

I cannot trust my instincts. Think the Sonic & Tails rumor is true, and its not. Think that Link in Soul Caliber 2 is a rumor, and it's true.

From now on I am going to do the opposite of whatever my instincts tell me.
