[OT] TV troubleshooting

I come home from a long day at work and wanted to watch last night's episode of Buffy, when I turn on my TV all I get is a bright horizontal line through an otherwise black screen.

What do you think it is?

If you have cable, it might be something wrong with the box. Does it still do that? Is it only that channel?

It is all channels, but I did not think of disconnecting the cable and see what I get. Thanks for the idea. I am probably the only one in the country with a one TV household.

Nope. I unplugged the cable and I still only had the horizontal line. I think it is my tube, but am not sure.

The worst part of it is, my wife has been asking for a second TV and I kept telling her we didn't need it. Dumb, dumb me.

Who is the manufacturer? I have an RCA TV, and they have quite an extensive troubleshooting guide at their website. Try your manufacturer's website.

I also have an RCA, and they do have a nice trouble shootin guide, but it failed to help me. Hitting it several times cause the line to jump and after about the tenth hit, the picture came back (but who knows for how long).
