I'm torn between Music of the Night from the origional production of Phantom of the Opera, Down to the Waterline by Dire Straits, and Sting's A Thousand Years.

Of course, i'm also partial to Metalica, the Doors, and Mozart, so my music tastes really vary to much to count.

I take issue with the "seattle years" being blamed for the lack of musical talent on guitar in todays music. Pearl Jam, STP, The Pumpkins, Screaming Trees, AIC, etc, all had solos. I blame the hop hop influence.

P.S. I changed my pick to DNR by Testament. If Gene Hoglan is god then Dave Lombardo sits at his right hand.

Oh my God how I hate STP!

I preffer the songs I listen to to have at least some kind of point to them. STP and to some extent The Chilli Peppers are the worst culprits. It is like 4 minutes of rhyming gibberish. Much like rap or hip-hop.

Still, Stone Temple Pilots have a frikkin gift or something. They are the only band I have ever heard that can talk for 5 minutes and say absolutly nothing.

However, I'll admit. I have only listened to one of their CDs in it's entirety (the pain!) so some of their songs that didn't make it to radio might not be so bad.

Mofos. :) I adore the 'crimson and clover' from their Bleed American....juicy....

The song is A Praise Chorus. The 'crimson and clover' line is actually a quote from another song though the title eludes me at the moment. I bet if you did a search you could find it though.

Of all the "new rock/metal" that has come out, the only ones I really like is Korn (Issues mainly) and Godsmack.

I mentioned this in the 'winamp playlist' thread, but in light of the fact that so many people are into heavier music I really recommend you guys check out a band called Thrice. Here are some of my favorite songs off the new album (no particular order; also tough to pick really since they're all so awesome): See You in the Shallows, Kill Me Quickly, So Strange I Remember You, The Red Death, To Awake and Avenge the Dead, Trust.

Gee, that's a tough one, as I have very eclectic tastes.

I'm a big Beatles fan, with "Got to Get You Into My Life" being my all time favorite, and John Lennon's "Imagine" being a close second.

I also like most of Glenn Miller's big band music, "In the Mood" being my top pick.

My favorite current group is the Canadian Celtic rock band Glengarry Bhoys, my top song of theirs being "Lexie Wright".

I enjoy my children's Tom Chapin music, my favorite of those being "The Ragtime Dance".

I am also a fan of Japanese banjo player Kazuhiro Inaba's bluegrass music, "Eight More Miles to Louisville" probably being my favorite.

And the song "All Good Things" by the early 80's group Klaatu is one of the best songs ever written.

Depends what mood I am in

Sad/mellow: Nutshell by Alice in Chains or I could have lied by Red Hot Chilli Peppers.

Pump Up/ Angry: Right now it is Remember by Disturbed

Just chillin music: Dave Mathews, Guster, or any Buffet songs will do.

I can never make up my mind, but I'll limit myself to a song each by three 'bands.'

Jack Names the Planets by Ash

The Last Saskatchewan Pirate by Arrogant Worms (I spelled Saskatchewan right on the first try!)

Ana Ng by They Might Be Giants (easily substituted with about twenty others)

Metallica, "Unforgiven" (that is the king of Metallica songs to me)

And mysteriously not on S&M. How did that happen?

Gee could it be Crimson and Clover? A bunch of the lines in the song are taken from or modified lines of other songs, for those of you who didn't already notice.

p.s. that was a rhetorical question and I didn't need to look it up either!
