Paladin - Cleric

Ok, say a Paladin violated his code and lost the gig. So he works to get his alignment back, if he lost it in the first place, but rather than atoning, he just takes levels in cleric. Same god. Now, does this god who formerly stripped him of divine power start giving it to him now, with even more spells? Or does the god just not forgive at all and tell him to find some other LG sucker? Bear in mind, an ex-paladin with cleric levels has everything he had before, except Divine Grace, Smite Evil, Remove Disease, Lay on Hands(but a load of Cure Spells now). He now has considerably better spells and better turning. Assuming of course that his god ha slower standards for the smae guy as a cleric. Thoughts?

Although I don't know the exact circumstances in this case, generally speaking I wouldn't have allowed the character to become a cleric of the same god until he had atoned for whatever caused him to lose his paladinhood.

However, in a circumstance where I did allow it (which would most probably involve a non-LG god), I would probably not restore the paladinhood until the indescretion was atoned for.

Certainly, its a somewhat bizarre situation.

I would call these very campaign-specific issues; I'd also agree that if the paladin's god is LG he probably won't be granting a fallen paladin clerical abilities without some atonement.

However, if the deity is LN or NG and the paladin hasn't fallen too far, I could easily see this as a cool character concept- the paladin who didn't measure up, learnt a measure of humility and now serves his god in a "lesser" (or greater, depending on your point of view) capacity.

EXCEPT all of these ?!?!

Overall I would say unless the Diety accepts NG or other alignments the Paladin should atone himself... if he atones he will be a Paladin again anyway.

Hmm.. interesting point.

Would you come to the conclusion then, that a Cleric is therefore more powerful than a Paladin?

Usually the fiveth level atonement spell works on Paladin's who lost their gig. Besides Paladins should consider a phylactery of faithfulness as standard equipment.

Cleric level 1 of Milil, take Charm and Nobility domains
then continue in Padalin. You can't go wrong, with a charisma based character like that.
