Paladin of Kord. Not recommended as a PC?

4e PHB recommend either LG or G as PC alignment.

And in case of Paladin, unlike Cleric, a PC's alignment must be equal to that of the patron god, even when the god is unaligned.

So, there is no good paladin of Kord. All of them are unaligned.

Does that mean Paladin of Kord is not recommended as a PC in 4e?

You can have unaligned PCs. There's more PC Paladins of the Raven Queen than she probably has NPC worshipers, all told.

It's Evil and Chaotic Evil that they warn you against.

I'd go so far to say that it really doesn't ruin anything if your paladin/invoker/avenger/cleric has a different alignment from your god. So if you want a G paladin of Kord, I'd allow it in my game.

I probably wouldn't let it go more than one step in the case of most gods (that is, no LG gods of Gruumsh ;) ), but that's more for flavor reasons than anything mechanical.

I have a neutral paladin in my game. She worships the Goddess of change, so there's something of a roleplaying hook, but the player finds it a little more of a roleplaying challenge than a traditional paladin.

I kind of see this as an artifact of older edition Paladins. They used to all be LG. Now they strictly adhere to the alignment of their patron. It makes not a whit of mechanical difference (since AFAIK there are no powers or effects that reference alignment) so feel free to ignore it.

As for Unaligned PC's? My 8th level Unaligned Paladin of Erathis would like a word with you.
