PBP/PBEM tool--beta testers wanted (What tool should I build, round 3)

As I've mentioned (http://www.enworld.org/forum/genera...at-online-tools-should-i-build-round-two.html), I'm part of a team that's building a 4e-focused tool. Thanks to your suggestions, we've settled on creating a tool for facilitating play-by-post/play-by-email games. The tool will have:

- a virtual battlemap that you can embed in forum posts
- dice roller
- action log

So, when it's your turn, you'll log in, move your token on the map, roll some dice, and log out. Everything you did will be securely recorded for other people to see, and you can embed the battlemat in your forum posts on ENWorld or elsewhere. The tool will require a modest subscription (details to be determined).

We're looking for beta testers for this tool. We're not ready for beta yet, but we're moving quickly and want to have testers lined up. If you're interested, please reply to this thread and we'll contact you in the next few weeks.

Finally--we're a small team with a small budget. Adjust your expectations accordingly.

One question I have about the virtual tabletop - assume, like is frequently the case, that the players don't know the rules, and end up making mistakes all over the virtual battlemap. How does the program intend to handle this? Does the DM have total control over the battlemap and can asjust all the characters?

Thanks!

The DM (and, in fact, the players) will have the ability to fix mistakes. Just like an in-person battlemat, it's up to the people to adjucate the rules and decide what goes where.

What the program will do is provide a log of what happened. So, although it won't stop player mistakes, it will document what the players did so you can check and fix if necessary.

Into beta

We're about to go live with Virtual Battlemat. We could use some beta-testers.

Virtual Battlemat provides a virtual table for your forum- or email-hosted games. Easily move tokens around a shared map, just like in real life. Upload your own tokens. Play on any map you choose. There's no installation necessary to play or to watch the game: a forum link takes your readers directly to your current combat.

We want Virtual Battlemat to be as easy to use as the table in your basement. Give us a hand by emailing join_the_beta (AT) virtualbattlemat (DOT) com .

Thanks,
your friendly Virtual Battlemat dev team
