Persistent Spell [CA]

Ditch said:
Potions can be made of any spell of 3rd level or lower that targets one or more creatures. There are potions of invis in the DMG and the spell does in fact target one or more creatures, regardless of the "personal" range.

It must be the 'touch' version of invisibility, however, rather than the 'personal' version, because:

The imbiber of the potion is both the caster and the target. Spells with a range of personal cannot be made into potions.

If you'll note, Persistant Spell candidates are spells that can't be cast on another creature.

Except for my favourite (though you need to go through some hoops to manage it pre-Epic): Persistent Fear.

 That's great!

So many great Persistent possibilities are squashed by the pre-Epic 9th level limit....or require a PrC (or a semi-broken Clr feat) to lower the metamagic cost. Ah well.

Still, Hyp's Fear example brings up an interesting question I had while compiling the Persistent-able core spell list this afternoon:

"How to spells with a burst area work as Persistent spells?" Since the feat doesn't allow spells with an instantaneous duration, does that imply spells with the burst area also not work?

I know that you can touch yourself; the point is that there's no real reason I can find. And apparently, that anyone else can find.
Isn't it wonderful how many extra meanings a post can have when taken out of context?

Nail, don't invisibility and mirror image have effects that can be dispelled? EDIT - I mean "discharged"!
More to the point, isn't invisibility 'creature touched'?

EDIT: Personal and Touch, hey? Weird! :heh:

Exactly. It can be used on the caster. So the only difference is for effects that can only be applied to Personal spells... like Persistent Spell.
But, before Persistant Spell, were there any effects that could only be applied to personal spells?

In the Core rules? Not that I can think of, in any way that would make the distinction relevant.

(The limitation on potions and the ability to cast a Personal spell on a familiar result in no difference between a "Touch" and a "Personal or Touch" invisibility.)

But looking towards future expansions is a valid design philosophy :)

Divine Power (in a 10th level slot) isn't bad either.

or in conjunction with Divine metamagic (persistant Spell) for 7 turning attempts a day and probably 4 feats used (extra turning, extend spell, persistant spell, Divine metamagic(persistant spell) )

or am i missing something that stops this?
