Petition to WOTC for POL Map

Panamon Creel

First Post
Alright, I read the Rich Baker news - no POL map will be released. This is disappointing.

While I've created homebrews before, I've never enjoyed drawing world maps. I'm never sure if the geography makes sense, how far apart things should be, etc. and I'm not a great artist. I thought 4E was supposed to be easier for DMs and reduce their work.

If you are going to drop all these new fluff names (just look at one of the Enworld threads listing them all - quite a few already), then please make it easy for DMs that don't want to sit down and have to draw a map. Like someone else said already, I want to open the books and play if I want to.

So WOTC please release the POL map for those who want it. Everyone who agrees please post here. Thanks

I would certainly like it.

And instead of explicitly labeling the map, they could just put numbers on parts of the map and put a sidebar that suggests the locations of some of the default places. That way people who just wanted some semblance of a world map could use it as it, where DMs with their own homebrews could use some or none of the suggested locations, instead filling their own homebrewed stuff into the map.

Plus, if they made the place a reasonably sized island, most DMs could just drop it right into any pre-existing setting they might have while still allowing other DMs to use the map and the world as it is.

So yeah, I'd really like a nice, flexible map with some optional ties to some of the default places being named. I could think of many worse things to devote a page to in the DMG.

I thought PoL was more of a philosophy to be used with settings like the FR and Eberron under 4e rather than a setting of its own?

Maybe that'll be something you can get from the DDI.
That'd be great, too. Maybe even an assortment of different potential world maps. Doing them through DDI would also allow them to release some nice high resolutions, letting people make some nice, big printouts of them.

/facepalm

No, it was a term used to describe the default setting. Overreacting intarweb people applied it to FR and Ebberron

This is a great idea.

I'd get behind this, but not one map that was in the PHB.

I don't want a map. I just want race ideas and regions and temples and city names I can sprinkle into my completely unexplored world as I feel inspired to do so.
