Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

It is my duty as a southerner to inform you that- while I haven’t had one myself- they’re real, dating back to Alabama in the 1890s.

We have a bunch of interesting sandwiches in the USA, and southern cuisine definitely puts out some doozies.

Just a couple years ago, a chef show introduced me to the collard green sandwich (which sometimes includes ham and/or cheese). It was created by Native Americans & Gullahs in the southeastern USA. I’ve made one or two- they’re actually pretty good!

Well, it doesn't hurt that at least some parts of the South want everything sweet. My mother commented on it many years ago after going out to visit her sister there.

I've had pineapple & mayo sandwiches before. They're a little bland, but I get why people like them.

But when you're ready to get serious about pineapple sandwiches, replace the mayo with pulled pork.

A Hawaiian themed place near me has a kalua pulled pork sandwich with pineapple slaw and crispy fried onions.

I think I know what I want for dinner.
