Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

I go through cycles of video game fandom. Right now, I’m in a low. The last console I bought was a Wii, and I haven’t purchased anything for my desktop in a decade or more.

So I’m just playing stuff on my mobile devices.
I was the same for a long time until one day I wanted to play some games and then bought myself a PlayStation and a Nintendo Switch and said it was for the kids (I lied.)

I bought myself an Xbox series x early on…got lucky! Then the kids started enjoying it so much I had a hard time playing too!

So I bought a second one and a second nice hdtv…

But now more than one kids is playing…and here I sit in ENWorld!

My kids finally got old enough that they confiscated the consoles for their rooms, and then invite their friends over and now here I sit on ENWorld too.

Here’s to our attempts at reliving our video game days! 🍻

Got up at 5. To work through detours. Back home drive people around…fix 2 toilets!, chores tasks and thinking a few rounds of a shooter….both TVs and Xboxs taken after 14 hour saga! My kid offered to let me play but she was having fun so I did the dad thing and cracked a beer and said have fun!

When it is my son we do some couch coop or shooters…no such luck today! Ha! My time has passed

Cool, but my wife is not a videogamer.

It isn't even that she minds videogames - she bought me an Xbox One some years back, when Overwatch came out, because it was big and she thought I might like it. But it turned out to take, as I said, hours and hours of time of me off playing a game. Even that's okay now and then, but it doesn't work as a habit, which means I don't get to really dig into any games.
Every 2-4 years a game will come out that I really want to play. I'll buy whatever the latest game console is out that best supports it and spend an insane amount of time playing it over a short period of time. Then I turn over the game console to my kids and don't play anything for a couple years. My wife puts up with it because it is so infrequent. It helps that very few video games can attract and keep my interest. I do worry that we are getting very close to where GAI and more powerful graphics cards and processors are going to make the kinds of games I like so immersive and content rich that I'll have to avoid them to getting sucked in.

I dont. I get what you are saying about edition churn and there being a period of time its best to look away, I just never put an actual time frame on it.
I mean, people still complain about things in 1e, 2e, 3e and 4e. I don't think two weeks is going to cut it. :P
