One of my favorite posters commented in this thread, about ignoring someone, I figured out it was me. Damn. The internet sucks, but I’m still awesome. I tell myself, but now feeling very alone. I guess I transgressed,but damn. I’ll be quiet, I don’t matter.

Absolutely. Take responsibility for what's in our control. And yet, many things are simply out of our control. How they turn out might be up to other people or it might be random chance. Though, to be fair, a whole lot of things we call luck are really the result of incredibly complex systems that we know essentially nothing about.

Many things we call luck would more properly be called a combination of opportunity (which is at least partially luck, but can be mitigated by working on being in the right circumstances) and preparedness/talent/skill. There are doors to success opening all the time, but you need to be both near the door and have the Right Stuff to be able to walk through it.

And of course, nepotism helps.

Sometimes Jack wishes that fewer of the really useful skills he's acquired were learned out of necessity...

Jack also sometimes wishes he didn't have the kind of life that required him to replace his old pickaxe today so that he could chop a hole in the ice of his pool and use a hand pump to fill buckets to flush his toilets for the past week and at least for the next few days of the foreseeable future...

As I conclude my 49th straight day of work, in an effort to hit a deadline which was ALWAYS unrealistic, I close down my work computer for the day and what do I want to do?

Spreadsheet some Shadowdark stuff...
