Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Well, poop. I’ve been enjoying participating again, but family situations round 2 beckon, and also my vascular system is being stupid again. So I will be back posting…when I can. In the meantime, please be good. Failing that, please be interesting. :)
Take care of yourself and your people, we'll see you when you can make it back.

The Dodgers, at least, did. It's plausible that the Colts did, too.

While the Dodgers name did have a particular local derivation, there’s nothing strongly associated with “Brooklyn” about the name itself. And Colts? Wherever there’s horses, there’s colts.🤷🏾‍♂️
And the Twins changed their name (from Senators) before the Rangers did.
Didn’t know that one!

And while- like the Dodgers- “Twins” isn’t something uniquely Minnesotan- it is a nice nod to The Twin Cities, which is a bit more widely known reference than “Trolley Dodgers”.

Sure, and there were some you didn't mention that acquired more local color when they moved. Best I can think of is the Browns becoming the Orioles.

Obviously not all names will have any deep local connection, though there are some trends in that direction--local indigenous tribes are kinda out, and most of the cool real-world animals are already taken.

Yes. From Baltimore. Under cover of darkness. In a snowstorm. Maryland has a horse-racing tradition--I live near the biggest track remaining in the state. I believe "Colts" might have been a bit of a reference to that: The three-year-olds that run in the Preakness (at Pimlico, in Baltimore) are still referred to as "colts," after all.

EDIT: I promise you I'm laughing about this post, and I was when I first wrote it.

Honestly, when they moved and kept the name, it was like huh? There aren't any Colts in Indy; bad drivers though, everyone has to act like they are in the 500. I 70 is a nightmare, destroyed, filled with idiots.

Having driven through Indiana two years in a row, on our way to vacations, I gotta agree.

Try driving around Charlotte, NC some time ;)

Riding my motorcycle past Talladega, on a NASCAR weekend, was mild by comparison.

True, NC is fast, I have driven there to the coast coming down through Asheville, at least the roads are smooth. I have a 4x4 truck, and the stabilitrak-traction control has noped out on some stretches of the freeway here.
