Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Ya know, the more I learn about the 2024 rules changes, and the more "just use the 2014 rule for that" posts I come across, the more comfortable I am with my decision to stay with the original 5E.
If you have strong preferences regarding either playing a game that's in print or being able to provide PDFs of the rules (I have both of those) you might fine Tales of the Valiant a relatively easy transition. This isn't even as strong as a suggestion, let alone a recommendation.

Thanks for the recommendation. I'm not really looking for a new system; the 2014 edition of D&D suits our group just fine. Until 5E no longer works for us, we don't have any real pressure to switch to anything else. I was a little excited about it when it first was announced, thinking that I might cherry-pick some of it, but that excitement faded pretty quickly when it made it to print.

I guess I've always been like this. My cell phone was built in 2020, and it still works just fine so I haven't upgraded it. My truck was paid off in 2008, has 103k miles on it, and I've never had any problems. I know there are folks out there who Must Have the newest version of everything, but I'm over here using the same book bag that I bought in 2010 and wondering what all the fuss is about. (It's the original Bag of Holding, made by the late great ThinkGeek. Apparently it's "vintage" now, according to the new intern?)

I have played Hero System since 1984, and while it's gone through editions, it was basically completely interchangeable until the very latest edition (6th), which came out in 2009. So that was 25 years of play. 5th edition is a fine system, and I expect to get a good 25 years of play out of it as well.

I still have my bag of holding
I was tempted, but I couldn't tell anything about the quality. I'm very familiar with game companies making the cheapest possible promotional items, so my paranoia won out. That said, if you guy are still using it it was probably "good enough."

I also still have the zombie identification shirt from them, this isn't mine but it's what it looks like.

ThinkGeek went through a period of 'just sell overpriced slop, nerds will buy anything' before Gamestop bought it but for most of the lifespan of the site it carried quality products for a niche audience.
