Frumious Flumph (Your Grace/Your Eminence)
You need to watch the interview with John Lithgow for the 25th anniversary where he talked about getting and figuring out the role. Based on his process, he was already a great actor in the 80s when it came out! And his over-the-top performance helped Peter Weller enormously with his characterizations (from the same set of interviews.)You just reminded me that John Lithgow looked like a 50 year old man from ages 30-70. Such an odd superpower.
That is precisely what they were going for! E. D. Rauch wanted to write an episode of an adventure serial, but he couldn't be arsed to actually, you know, write 50 or so stories to get there; instead, he decided he could world-build the thing as he went along. As it turns out, he was pretty on-the-nose.i'm trying again to watch Buckaroo Banzai and it feels like franchise movie only without a franchise to support it.
