I didn’t claim a direct link only that fish sauce has been in Europe for some time. I was not aware that the creators of Worcestershire sauce claimed inspiration, I don’t really see it. But then I don’t know what fish sauces were available from India or China at the time.There is no clear and known link between garum and Worchestershire sauce, which is produced very differently from garum.
Worchestershire sauce was created by, you guessed it, John Lea and William Perrins, and commercialized in 1837. Where they got the recipe is unknown, but they claimed various inspirations from India and Asia.
I was always under the impression that the type of meat is immaterial to it being a shepherd’s pie. So ya…
