Mine did it with loaf bread, wonder where it originated?
I remember watching a video essay about food history that mentioned this meal. I'm not sure which one, there are oodles out there and I watch a lot of them, but apparently this meal is as old as bread itself....it's believed that this was (and still is) a common way to use up stale bread. Some recipes use milk, others use broth, ale, wine, or whatever beverage you had on hand.

The author of the video I watched made the claim that this was one of the first breakfast cereals. I'm not sure about that, but I learned that crumbled-bits-of-bread-with-milk shows up all over the world, all across history.
