Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

This was a short experiment that ended years ago, but it proves the point that carrots are better than sticks.

The only challenge to embracing this more widely is that a lot of people will object to the government tracking everyone who drives along a certain stretch of road. While some cultures won't mind (Singaporeans are already monitored 24/7, for instance), this would be like a declaration of war in places like Wyoming.

And then there's Finland, where apparently the price you pay for a speeding ticket is based on how much money you earn.

Yeah, just found out the other day that, despite having Google for Work -- which our company pays quite a bit for -- when people leave, their old documents and folders don't get automatically handed off to someone else, like their supervisor, but just lock solid.

We've got some 10-year old files we need to get into, and we're all flailing around trying to figure out if we need to reauthorize someone's old account to get into them so we can make copies of it.

Given the turnover at companies in Silicon Valley, it's baffling that this is the default state.
We had Google set up drives that were owned by departments, rather than users, for the sharing of files. Of course that doesn't stop people from screwing up and sharing from their own accounts, but it does minimize it.

Extreme cop out considering he was, in the real world at the same time, essentially using the same argument to defend his positions on nuclear armament.
And the attitudes of both books also pervade everything he wrote after them, through his death. They definitely were an expression of his actual beliefs.

If you ever pine for Heinlein, but don't want to deal with his views, John Varley is an amazing writer who's openly working in the Heinlein mold, but without Heinlein's sometimes problematic views. (Varley is just as horny as Heinlein, though, especially in his Eight Worlds and Gaea series.)

It has been hard to come to accept that no one’s opinion regarding just about anything is remotely interesting. Including my own. But it’s true.
