I never really believed even if the technology had become practical that flying cars would be a significant thing. I mean, can you imagine given how people are on ground-bound cars, can you imagine that occurring over people's houses?

I always loved the idea of flying cars, and appreciate it when really cool ones show up in sci-fi.

However, the older I get, the more I notice bad drivers. And the more I notice bad drivers, the more my mind extrapolates them into drivers of flying cars.

It’s bad enough when you see reckless drivers causing horrific crashes on our streets- including some by those who CLEARLY longed for flying cars as well- but imagining the carnage in our cities when you have fender-benders at 700ft makes me glad we’re not there yet.

People are the reason why people can't have nice things.

I don't think most of those are dysfunctional for their intended purposes if you could solve the technological problems. I don't see any problem with application of a functional laser gun that isn't a problem with their conventional equivalents for example.

The problem with the aircars is that they intrinsically are hazardous if used the way a normal car is. You'd at least need to apply limitations on them (and ones that make them mostly less than useful) to prevent that. That probably applies to general (but not specialized) use of jet packs, and maybe transporters, but not the other two.

Not really. If you want to make a comparison, its to helicopters, and even those require more of a landing and take off footprint than the classic depicted flying car does, but they're at least closer.
