I spent the formative years of my life (Ages ~12 - 29) in a weird, semi-rural part of Ohio. We were only 45 minutes outside of Columbus, and my town wasn't that rural.. We had a (dying) mall, multiple major grocery stores, most of the main fast food staples.. But at the same time we also weren't that suburban. We had one of the larger county fairs in the state, kids in my school got most of fair week off because they knew that half the kids were in FFA and wouldn't be showing up anyway. On any given day you probably can't catch in Uber in town.
Right before the pandemic my parents bought a house and moved to one of the more rural parts of town. Their lot is sandwiched between two farms, one of which is a cow farm.. It's about a 20-25 minute drive for them to get to the grocery store. I lived with them there in that house for about two years before finally getting out on my own, and I've got to say.. I have zero desire to live in the country. I could run to the store and be back in the time it would take my folks to get to the store, get parked, and pick out a shopping cart. If I wanted to make something for dinner, and was missing a couple of ingredients, I could go grab them. My parents would instead have to decide on something else for dinner.
I don't really have any desire to move to a big bustling city either.. But I definitely want to live in a place where my neighbors are humans, rather than cows. Who knows.. Maybe as I get older my mind will change and the Dakota's will become more enticing.. But as for right now I think you guys a loony.
