Yeap, edition churn is a PITA. Probably take a few years before things calm down.
I've never really gotten to experience edition warring..

I started playing a couple of years before 4e came out.. And I remember my group just being excited. We were already pretty heavily invested in 3.5e but the idea of a new version of the game was really promising. None of us were on forums or anything though, so I'm sure there was plenty of it going around.

Then I was kind of out of the hobby when 5e came out.. But from what I remember from being in other, adjacent nerdy groups/forums the reception was pretty positive. Perhaps that's just because 4e had such a bad rep at the time. Again, I'm sure there was plenty of negativity and hate going around in more dedicated spaces, but I wasn't privy to it..

Seeing a lot of the attitudes this time around is a little disheartening. I tend to not check the forums here on the weekends and usually browse during the week day when I should be working. I keep seeing a lot of these threads that seem to have interesting premises and topics... But when I see the page counts in the dozens, I already know what's going to be inside. So I just move along.

And this is why I am desperate to get out. I dont even want to know what a world run by Gen Z and Alpha would look like.
I have a few Zoomer friends. They consistently impress me with how smart, ethical, and hardworking they are. Generally good taste in music, too. One of them has introduced me to some fantastic stuff, like Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats, and Molchat Doma. And Viagra Boys. Who are three of my favorite bands of the last few years.

Another one made this (which is worth checking out, if you like pop punk):
