One of my more humbling moments on the debate team, years ago (paraphrased heavily):

My point: Our economy is broken!
My opponent's counterpoint: Our economy is working exactly the way it was designed to.

I lost that debate so hard.
Yep. Most people think it’s designed to be fair. It’s not. It’s a wealth concentration machine, with wealth flowing in one direction. To the top. If it weren’t for monopolies being illegal, we’d already be down to one corporation running each industry, if not one corporation running everything.

Most people, when they learn how wide the wealth gap actually is kinda freak out a bit.

Not a fan of folks getting punched in the face, but I do think he made good point about how brave people get behind a keyboard when they aren't doing face to face interaction. And face to face just naturally leads to more empathetic interactions I think
It’s an expression of violence from a man whose job was violence. But his core observation that people treat others differently- often, quite shoddily- when their anonymity or safety due to distance is virtually assured is not a new one.

Its funny because I've seen more disgraceful behavior in office environments, than you would EVER see out at camp on in the oil patch, or out in a field on the job site.

There are still places where if you talk naughty word, you WILL get corrected in a way that leaves no question as to where the other person stands.
