Yeah, I think once she gets a little older, she'll broaden out. I remember when Liz Phair -- another generational singer songwriter who broke big in the 1990s instead -- was all about boys and breakups.

She’s already starting to, I think. Even though some of the themes remain, “Can’t Catch Me Now” (that song she did for Hunger Games) shows almost Fleetwood Mac levels of subtlety.*

My wife loves K Pop so I catch some of it through her (and picked up some early k pop when I was doing TKD). My view on the whole ironic thing: there is no such thing as ironically enjoying music. She is very into Lalisa and Black Pink right now. I mean yes, a handful of people may do that. But I think when people say they like something ironically it really just means they like it but feel some guilt or shame or sense of being uncool so it is more of a self deception or cover for genuine enjoyment

My girlfriend is also a huge K-Pop fan, so I've also picked it up through osmosis. We're more of a Twice and Chuu household, ourselves..

But yeah, I agree with the "enjoying ironically" point. I was a young boy in the 90's/early 2000's during the prime of groups like Backstreet Boys and N*Sync, and had to play it off as ironic enjoyment.. Less my pre-pubescent manhood be called into question.

I usually listen to my local station The Current 89.3 which has a stream I highly recommend.

Though I say some classic MTV recently that had Sting and then Fun loving criminals Scooby Snacks which really brought back some memories.

It's a shame that independent radio is dying. I was a huge fan of CD92.9(Formerly CD102.5((Formerly Formerly CD101.1))) in Columbus, Ohio.. They were played a huge part in me developing such broad music tastes.

Funny enough, as I type this, I pulled up The Current on my phone and they're currently playing Lake Street Dive, which is a band I rather like. Thanks for the suggestion. Since moving I haven't found a radio station I really like over the air.

Which is why I stick to radio, particularly my local station. I am constantly exposed to new stuff and get the old classics too. St Vincent no longer in that young women's category I suppose, but man can she play guitar.

I think one area where music has changed is the radio and rock. There are still plenty of thriving genres on teh radio, but rock specifically seems to be less prevalent on the air waves (and so discovering new rock music on the radio isn't as common for people). I realize this varies a lot by region but here our last indie rock station went away in the late 2000s. And the rock that does exist is almost entirely classic (which covers more ground than it used to, but still nothing current)
