Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

I was on my second Mazda5 and would have bought a third, is they still made it.

Either 4WD or AWD has pretty much become a necessity for me, now that my brother and his family have moved 2.5 hours away into our snow belt. His house is where we gather for the holidays. They're now maybe 15 minutes away from his father-in-law, who is pushing 80, hard, and needs to have support nearby.
Yeap, the G8 hugged and handled the road like a glove. Plenty of pep and all the luxury items a guy could ask for. A total nightmare in the ice and snow. I got tired of having to find a friend or family member to help with loads of stuff. Figured I dont drive much at all anymore so maybe its time for a pick up. The Tacoma is a TRD fully loaded so I still got leather and sunroof! 4x4 for those icy winters we dont really have anymore.

My only pickup was a 2000 Dodge Dakota 2WD. I drove it down to North Carolina, with my motorcycle in the back, one February. It was during a heavy snowstorm and while there were 4WD vehicles off to the side and stuck in snowbanks, all the way between Hamilton and Niagara Falls, it seemed like the transports and my Dakota were immune.

Having the bike weight in the back probably helped.

Oh, definitely. An extra 500-odd pounds over the drive wheels, with snow tires, was undoubtedly the reason. When the bike wasn't back there I had a water filled bladder, that obviously turned to ice in winter, for extra weight.

Learning to drive and spending most of my adult life in central Ohio where we got snow... But not really that much snow.. I always though 4WD/AWD was over-rated. I went through many winters in front wheel drive cars, including a 2004 Mazda 3, which to this day, is still my favorite car I've ever owned. I moved a few hours to a state up north and happened to purchase my first AWD car shortly beforehand. It wasn't chosen for that reason.. I just really liked the car and it just so happened to have four powered wheels. I will say.. The AWD is nice. You can notice a difference. I have zero fears of getting stuck..

Stopping on the other hand.. AWD doesn't help with much.

Yup, 4WD and AWD will get you going faster, but aren't any better really at stopping. And, like ABS, it doesn't really help with lateral traction. When you're gone, you're gone.

I still miss my 2009 Pontiac G8. I wont miss it in the winter, even with the little driving I do anymore, but that car was awesome! Drive a 2019 Tacoma now.

Its the way I sometimes feel about my old Chevrolet Celebrity Eurosport. It made no sense to keep the ruddy thing, and it was only a matter of time, and the AC was gone but I still miss the way it drove and accelerated.
