Fonts are sometimes fun to use, but they’re rarely crucial.

Punctuation rules like the Oxford comma, OTOH, can really wreck your prose if ignored at the wrong moment.

I might amend that to say within certain bounds, they're rarely crucial. It's like having freedom to pick the color of your tie... as long as you're wearing a proper suit and not a clown suit.
 




Omitting that comma is sometimes known as the Donner Option.
Around direct address? I'd never seen a term for omitting it--I've understood it to practically always been an error.

I've seen omission of the Oxford comma referred to as the "Cambridge comma" before, though.
