Is there a well known or pithy quote along the lines of "battle not with monsters... If you gaze into the abyss..." but about engaging in protracted retread conversations on the Internet, particularly where the other side appears to just not want to get it?

(Should I have just gone to ask ChatGPT to make one?)

Is obstinacy close enough?

"The difference between perseverance and obstinacy is that one comes from a strong will, and the other from a strong won't." Henry Ward Beecher

There's this, which might fit (I've seen it attributed to George Bernard Shaw): "Never wrestle with pigs. You both get dirty and the pig likes it."

I'm prepping for a Masque of the Red Death 5E one-shot, and I'm shocked there's not a set of stats for generic Victorian npcs. Like, "Tradesman," or "Bobby," or "Urchin." Does everybody seriously just use, say, "Bandit" for everyone? Like, I could convert from another system, but I can't even find that.
