Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

After making that Buscadero style holster and belt I now understand why it wasn't actually used in the Old West. It would be useless on a horse. You're never going to be able to walk quickly in one, let alone run, as that "gunfighter" leg tie is wildly impractical for daily use. Looks OK, costume-wise, but that's about it. I've now modified the old Tandy Leather pattern to make it a cross-draw, which is more period accurate.
(Emphasis mine.)

When I was a kid, I had a cap gun that was a very ornate “silver” and “pearl” 6 shooter, and it came with a Buscadero holster, plus fake bullets to put in little loops. (I had one of the rifles in the same set, too.)

And every time I tried actually wearing the gun in the holster while riding on my bicycle, the gun would eventually fall out. After that happened a few times, I’d just hang the holster & belt around my neck until I reached my destination, THEN put it on.

The pointlessness of talking with some people in two parts.

Part 1. "It's great that the industry is catering to your tastes. It would be great if more than like six people in the industry catered to my tastes."

Part 2. "How dare you attack me like that?! If they make anything for you that means they'll make nothing for me!"

Most of the real holsters I have seen covered the entire gun to protect it. When people fought with guns, they carried them in their hand.
There are a goodly number of historically accurate holster types that do leave the butt clear, but military holsters tended to have a protective flap. Sometimes people would just get a surplus holster and then cut the flap off.

Which was also a thing people did. Or just stick the gun in their belt, with no holster at all.

EDIT - Oh, and shoulder holsters were absolutely a thing, in the Old West. Not common, but they existed, and were commonly used for short barrel revolvers.
