Ever just watch people make mistakes, watch as they overcomplicate their lives, make issues way more of a focus than they deserve, when the answers are right in front of them?

You try and help, over and over, but eventually you have to just cut the cord?

After eight years of always cleaning up the messes when my best friend all through high school and four years afterward would make the same emotional mistakes over and over again despite me always telling her exactly what and how she needed to change, I finally dropped her like a rock - literally got up, walked out the door, and never saw her again.

And yet others call you out as someone to listen to on exactly those topics you have such bad takes on. Sometimes I have to log out because I do not understand how someone went from A -> D and there actually is no B or C, they just decided to choose violence over nothing.

FYI, these threads have multiple participants and thus they're multi-participant conversations. A post may quote you, but that doesn't mean that post is directed AT you or critical of your point. It's a follow-up to a point you made that might be critical but it may also be a further amplification or just making sure its context is clearly based on a preceding post.
I've seen enough bewildered or semi-hostile reactions to being quoted over the years that I felt it necessary to point this out.

It has become painfully obvious over time that many people think automatically that a quote is always a direct response.

I think there’s much to be said for that assumption. If the new post isn’t a direct response, make that very clear first thing or just take the quote out. I do that fairly often, when I find I’ve moved on to something else.
