The Soloist
Hero
In 1985, I saw Marillion at Le Bal du Lézard*, a small bar in Quebec City. I was sitting 10' away from Fish singing.

For me it was when I paid about C$120 to see The Who at Rich Stadium, in Buffalo. That included the bus to and from Toronto. The Clash opened for The Who. David Johansen (New York Dolls) opened for The Clash. Same thing; drugs and alcohol everywhere. I drank (not in years now), but didn't and don't use drugs. 1982.The best bang for the buck show I ever saw was paying $10 to see Swervedriver opening with Machine Head, Pearl Jam and Soundgarden following (in that order).
It was magical and memorable for many reasons:
1) the price for that lineup, obviously
2) the venue (now demolished) was a converted 1950s hangar, all curved metal & concrete, so there was nowhere for the sounds to go except through humans…and it was LOUD.
3) the venue had a no stagediving/crowd surfing policy…which Eddie Vedder broke during Machine Head’s set, getting him ejected. Fortunately, many fans were able to convince security & mgmt that he was the lead singer in the next act, and ejecting him would be a bad idea.
4) There were drugs EVERYWHERE- more than any show I’ve attended before or since. It’s a good thing I didn’t have a drug test l, because even though I don’t partake, I was probably 2nd hand exposed enough to test positive.
We had one who would do that. Problem was he was the GM. That's how my "backup campaign" became the main.Player who cancels at the last minute frequently also cancelled on the group's Friendsgiving plan at the last minute. It's getting to the point that when we do things we're just going assume he isn't showing up and then being surprised when he does.
