I am by no means psychic, nor am I able to credibly predict the future in most circumstances. That being said...

I am reasonably certain that some of the powers-that-be are unhappy that I am taking off the week of Christmas and then being let go at the end of December. They were really hoping I'd be able to teach everything I know to the guy who is staying on. However, he is taking next week off, and I have off the week after, and then he has a few days off at the end of the year, so I will only see him tomorrow.

I am about 90% certain that they are seriously considering telling me my vacation has been cancelled (after being approved months ago) so that they can get one last week of knowledge transfer. Which they won't be able to do, because I have already bought nonrefundable tickets, and I will still be taking that time off. I mean, what are they going to do, fire me? They've already told me I'm gone after the 31st.

On the other hand, there's a nonzero chance that the middleman company will tell me I'm done on the 19th when the rest of their staff is done, in which case it's all a moot point!

On the one hand, I have some stress to be back on the unemployment line. On the other hand, the relief of finally being done with the utter shenanigans that have started happening around here may exceed that stress by an order of magnitude. Seriously, some of the higher-ups could write books about being the most horrendous human beings.

I'm a PC gamer and hearing the financial news folks talk about GPUs as a new thing and something that only Wall Street cares about is making me crazy.

The AI bubble needs to pop so I can have the draw distance in World of Warcraft set to infinity.
i'm going to upgrade my GPU next month before it really gets bad again, my ram is okay 48gigs but my gpu is a bit behind RTX 3060 12 gig, i'm eyeing the rtx 5060 16gig

Tho
I was on-site at 5:00am, but that's my preferred time as it allows me to dodge most of the legendary Toronto rush hour. After 25 years+ I have 2.5 days of vacation accruing per month, making it almost impossible to take it all, so I took an extra week, The uni is closed from the 22nd to the 2nd. The only other tech with the ability to do purchasing is the only one with more time in than me and he's taking the same extra week off. Our manager is going to have to actually break out his card :D
I’m reminded of a few years ago when the Sam’s my aunt worked at fired a BUNCH of managers. The new managers decided to make changes without actually looking at who did what in the store. My aunt and 2 of her friends were the only 3 non-managers who were trained to do some particular task that happened multiple times daily. (And not all of the managers were trained in it, either.)

One of the changes: they changed work schedules so that my aunt and her 2 friends were all given the same days off.😳

I suggested that she & her friends celebrate by taking those new days off to have lunch and learn the fun of day drinking. Including the one who was a teetotaler.🤪

Then Mgmt could call one of them, asking them to come in, and that person could say, “I can’t- I’ve had 2 Long Island Iced Teas and I’m not safe to drive right now.”

Then when the 2nd person got called, it would be martinis, and maybe piña coladas for #3.

Discussion of politics and religion has long been banned on EnWorld for being too controversial. But to me it seems like RPGs are a far more contentious topic: I’m pretty sure we should ban RPG discussion too.
Try discussing RPGs on a politics site and see what it gets you. (Probably doxxing and a personal discussion with a very confused Kash Patel.)
