If you watch Cobra Kai -- which you should, as it's an absolutely deranged love letter to the original movies -- everyone in the valley remains obsessed with the 1984 All Valley Under 18 Karate Tournament. It's the basis of Daniel LaRusso's extremely nice lifestyle, for instance.

The original was kind of, sort of, a decade or so late responding to America's new enthusiasm for martial arts. But Cobra Kai, decades later, is basically a parallel universe where people still care about a 40-year old teen tournament.
To be fair, I think that we're pretty much already seeing a subset of people who cared about teenage martial arts competitions in the first place. I mean, we're still talking about D&D what, 50 years later?

Do we know or care about who won the Gen Con tournaments that gave us Tomb of Horrors, the G series or Lost Shrine of Tamoachan?
Not off the top of my head but if they came from my home town....

For example I was in the same high school gaming club as Ian Hartshorn, one of the writers of the old module "Catapult Run." that was 42 years ago.

RotJ is the one I have amazing memories of seeing in the theater; the hours-long line to get in, and the wonder of it. Allegedly my dad took me along for the first two but I can't remember them from the theater.

Jaws came out the year I was born. I've aged about as well as that animatronic shark.
Same on the first but I swear I'm aging ok. 😅
