It's really not healthy for anyone, child or adult, to be online constantly. This was clear as far back as 1987, when I went to college and was exposed to the IRC servers on the NYU campus. Constant exposure to every conscious thought of a thousand strangers was bad then; how could it be better with millions, billions of strangers?

The good news is that more and more nations are realizing this. I suspect social media is going to be age-restricted in much of the industrialized world within a few years. Ideally, that will make the networks too unprofitable under their current models, and they'll either change dramatically, wither down to something about as popular as Mastadon (in other words, not very, other than for large groups of friends and associates talking with each other, rather than strangers), or have the plug pulled.

I also wouldn't be investing in Roblox either, which seems like it's headed for big regulatory trouble very, very soon after years of dodging bullets.

In my day, polls on the Internet poked you in the eye until you answered all the questions! They'd even have secret questions you could only find by pixel-hunting the page, just so they had an excuse to poke you in the eye even more! And we liked it that way!

Yeah, we're definitely reaching a point where the "gambling" rubber band is about the snap back hard. And that includes gacha games as well as sports betting. This past NFL season was practically unbearable with it

Roblox is also pretty cavalier with protecting kids (nearly their entire user base) from online predators, which is the kind of thing legislators tend to get upset about (with one obvious exception).
