That’s a good way to ensure you don’t have experienced workers around when things inevitably go wrong. Expertise matters.

I was handling a small probate case. It was almost simple, but there was a lot of friction between the surviving (adult) children and their stepmother.

But there was ALSO one tiny flaw in the will: the deceased hadn’t named an executor of any kind. That’s rare. It’s so rare that the probate judge handling the case had never seen such a will in his entire career on the bench OR as an attorney beforehand NOR as a law student. I’d never seen it either.

But his clerk had been on the job 40 years, and knew the exact section of the law that had the solution, because it had happened once before in her career, to the judge’s predecessor.
