Context is important. While I think this is mostly true, there is still the great quote "If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor", which is an example of a phrase conceptually boiling down to "if you are not with me, you're against me" but is nevertheless fully and completely accurate.

Context is important, but so is recognizing when people use "context" to try and justify a double standard. "It's not wrong when I say it's not" is not a sentiment that can be excused with a simple invocation of "context."

It is not really the person that dies -- it is the version of the person that the grieving (or celebrating) individual remembers. This is doubly true of celebrities whose heydays were decades ago. Chances are what you are really reacting to is the death of a piece of your formative years.
