Today I realized I had 55 GB of crap on my desktop folder and one drive was syncing it all every time I rebooted. After replacing my hard drive starting to go bad, probably because of that, I thought performance would improve on startup (windows was needing to repair virtually every reboot as well), but very small improvement. I expect turning off syncing to those 55 GB and turning off most of the search indexing which runs heavily on startup will greatly improve start up times and hard drive life.
