Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

--

Received my first way out of line estimate. No, that work is not worth a couple grand, you are out of your mind and I'll just do it myself.

RuneQuest, really? Palladium FRP definitely, but the RuneQuest I'm familiar with is the progenitor of Basic Roleplay System (same core as Call of Cthulhu). It DOES have ability scores mostly on a 3-18 scale (with 5 of the 7 overlapping with D&D), but it's a % skill-based system rather than class & level, HP don't increase over time, spells use mana points IIRC... Was original RQ closer?
RuneQuest was mechanically mostly developed by Steve Perrin as an outgrowth of his tinkering with D&D. You can see a lot of the basic stuff in his contributions to Alarums & Excursions.

EDIT: To be clear, I'm more saying proto-RQ was based on D&D. It rapidly diverged. But at the start, it was basically D&D with percentile dice for combat, skills, and magic points instead of spell levels; these were all things he wanted to change about the D&D he played at his table. It was the D&D of Theseus, you might say.

As if invoked, I just started getting FB ads for Geoff Tate (he's operating separately from the act currently using the name Queensrÿche) touring this year doing Operation: Mindcrime in its entirety, "for the final time!:
When Tate left/was fired from Queensrÿche and they replaced him with Crimson Glory’s Todd La Torre, I kinda lost track of everyone involved after 1-2 more albums. The acrimony just…😬

Wow, I am on a roll for the past couple of weeks. Despite injuring my back last Thursday I have maintained my calm and I have been able to accomplish some great things in my personal and work life.

Today was filled with work between medical appointments for my back and I still managed to post up a link to a D&D YouTube vid that I really enjoyed here and it has sparked a pretty positive response from ENWorld.

Life is good.

Am I the anti-Snarf? The nega-Snarf from Scott Pilgrim? Only time will tell.

I don't think Ready Player One is the best personally, i'd say The Martian is so far
Ready Player One as the best sci-fi novel of the last 15 years hurts my head.

But why the arbitrary 15 year cut off? That cuts off The Hunger Games, The Three Body Problem, Old Man’s War.

It's not a 15 year cutoff. You misread "of the 21st century".

RP1 is 15 years old. The linked list is of novels published since 2000 and which have been rated on Goodreads at least a thousand times.

The Martian is #2, Old Man's War is #3, and Hunger Games is #4 (Leviathan Wakes, the first Expanse book, is #5).

Ahhh yes, I did misread.

And now I give up all hope! 😂

I can’t underscore how much I dislike RP1, both the writing and its popularity alongside so many other worthy books.

Ready Player One will stand as a timeless classic in fiction until the end of humanity. It will outlast all other fiction bestsellers: The Lord of the Rings, by J.R.R. Tolkien; Harry Potter, by J.R.R. Rowling; The Corpse Danced at Midnight, by J.R.R. Fletcher; and The Bible, by J.R.R. Christ.
