So, when my daughter was born, we went into the hospital 3 weeks earlier than expected, on March 29, 2023. I was there the whole time. After a day and a half of labor, I did what I usually do when faced with extreme stress and started making a joke that, if my wife would hold on only a little longer, the baby would be born on April 1st and the Dad Jokes would write themselves.

My wife reacted predictably and my daughter was born March 31, 2023, after 44 hours of labor.

Contrast to my dad's handling of my birth: he drove my mom to the hospital in the morning and then went to the data center to work the full day. I believe my mom and I took a taxi home from the hospital.

Seems like the right place to say this because it’s a total non-sequitur anywhere else but anyone who tried to make any sort of official announcement yesterday really doesn’t understand how much many people loathe and mistrust April 1st. You easily could’ve waited a day and not have to make all these “For real! Not a joke!” statements.
