Apparently, in Pompei, they came across a fresco depicting something that sure looks like a pizza.

So, of course, experts were very quick to point out that that's not a pizza, and have been vehement about squashing any possible notion that this flat-bread dish with, possibly, cheese or vegetables or fruits on top, is in any way, shape, or form a pizza. Or even a proto-pizza. They are adamant that it bears no resemblance to pizza and should not have any association with pizza.

Because the instinct to crap on other people's enjoyment of things is a primal human urge! I'm doing it right now, in fact!
