I’m not big on ignore lists especially when it ends with you not being able to make sense of a thread. But I do like ignoring threads as a whole if that makes sense.

I'm always amazed how many of you don't have some of these people on ignore. None of their behavior should be a shock to you at this point.

IMO (and only applying to me) I dont put anyone on ignore.

That way, if they are being "whatever", I can go SKIP SKIP SKIP on their posts in the thread.

If, by chance they are not being "whatever", then I will read what they say.

Which with some, has resulted in "Oh, what a nice surprise, READ READ..dang it...SKIP SKIP SKIP"

Well, ignoring people still gives you the option to view their posts, if you find following along with the thread difficult without it

True, but by and large I’ve found when I’m ready to ignore someone two things have happened:

1) Conversation has died off to 2 to 4 people anyways. To me, the thread is almost effectively dead.
2) If I’m not careful, I’m one of those 2 to 4 people, which means I’ve let myself get roped into a convo that I can and should just walk away from. At that point, I’m not helping anything.

So when I see the first start to happen, I just exit the thread. I’ve actually gotten to the point that I see certain people post at all in a thread, I’m walking away because they’re just generally disagreeable from the get go.

But, what do you mean but "sealioning"? I'm just asking questions here. Am I not supposed to ask questions? I don't understand why my asking questions is somehow not what the boards are here for! It seems rude to dismiss me just because I'm asking questions!

Good start but you'd need to carry on like this across dozens of topics every year. It should sound more aggrieved too.

Barring the one person I ignored literally the first week I was on here (it might have been the first day), I've usually found anyone I can't just roll my eyes and move on about will ignore me before too-too long.

MANY people here do not engage in good faith, deliberately troll, bait for the culture war, or are so fundamentally stuck on pineapple there is zero value in engaging or polluting your mind.

Anyways, I was chatting with and watching the guy doing work at my place today and it's a great reminder of the life I left a long time ago.

1. The stuff he's working with daily, will cause cancer eventually, or respiratory disease at best.

2. His body will fall apart decades before it naturally should.

3. He's not making what he should, but everyone undercuts everyone else, to say nothing of unlicensed work.

4. He's got a bunch of guys who couldn't afford to keep doing the work, they had to move because of the cost of living.

Sobering stuff, and a reminder that I've been blessed. Even if it's 2 hours later than I'd like, I'm off to the gym, and that alone is a gift.

I find IL can be beneficial for my own behavior too. There are some posters who are not "bad" per se but with whom I just clash. If I IL them, I am less likely to be a jerk myself.
