Pious Templars "Mettle" ability

Felnar

First Post
this seems like a cool ability, basically evasion for fort and will saves, but what can it actually be used for? what spells/etc have saves like "will partial" or "fortitude half"?

the spell fear has a save of "will partial", but i'd be entering pious templar from paladin, so i'm already immune to fear.

i'm probably missing something simple that makes "mettle" good

Really, there aren't too many things that Mettle affects. I used to think it was broken; but I've come around to the point that I think it's prolly an okay ability after all.

*shrug*

I can say this: it has not once come up in play for my Dwarf Paladin/Pious Templar playing through City of the Spider Queen, and we have encountered huge numbers of enemy spellcasters.

But boy will it be useful when it *does* come up! ;)

Yeah- there aren't many things that mettle helps against, but most of them are pretty bad for you.

Only somewhat, since it's only the effects, which you suffer from a *successful* save. They are usually not *that* bad, not nearly as bad as the one's you suffer, if you failed the save. ;)

Destruction, Harm and Horrid Wilting seem to be the worst from the core rules, and probably not too uncommon at higher levels.
