Pirates of the Caribbean - at the worlds end [no spoilers]

Plane Sailing

Astral Admin - Mwahahaha!
OK, I've not seen it yet, and don't want spoilers in this thread

But I'm getting a vibe from a lot of places that it isn't that great (or is significantly worse than the early films).

Personally I loved the first film, but felt that the second film went over the top in some of its action sequences, and I hated the 'ending' (just like I hated back to the future 2. Give me a whole film, dammit!)

So, because I don't want spoilers, but I'd like to hear pro's and con's about the movie - could you tell me something about it in this thread?

Cheers

I didn't much like #2 either (plot-wise), but it is a middle movie and this one wraps things up fairly nicely.

Significantly worse than the previous? No, definitely not. It's not as good as the first, but definitely better than the second. There are plenty of things I didn't like. F'rex (without giving anything away), I really thought all the Jack scenes were a bit much... you'll know what I'm talking about when you see the movie. But other than that I thought the movie was paced very well, whereas the previous one was not.

There's a lot of stuff that's over-the-top, I guess, but when I walk into a movie like this that's what I'm expecting, and what I want. I think that unabashed flamboyance has been there from the start; they just have a bigger budget now.

I think it's a good action movie to see in theaters. If you don't want to pay full price, try and catch a matinee. If you'd really just rather not see it on the big screen, it's certainly worth a rental.

Opposite of GoodKingJayIII, I definitely found it significantly worse than the second (which in turn I thought was worse than the first).

I can't tell you much, but IMO it was considerably more OTT than the second. Further, the plot was very convoluted (even moreso than the second) and suffered from some serious pacing issues. This was not a tight story.

So, my feelings on the matter are pretty much exactly opposite of GoodKingJayIII.

Pro's? Well, I personally loved seeing all the recurring characters, even as far back as the first movie. Very nice touch. I liked the action sequences, too (but if you thought that DMC was OTT, you haven't seen anything yet).

Heh, I guess it's just karma coming back to bite me. For weeks I've been arguing with my friends that Spidey 3 is an awful film for basically the same reasons. So I guess it's my turn to enjoy a movie most people seem to hate. :)

Definitely the least enjoyable of the three. I found it bloated and convoluted, not because the plot was difficult to follow, but because there was a lot of plot threads, each of them complex enough for a whole movie, that led nowhere and then died. The movie should have been seriously trimmed down.

I didn't really think the plot were not as damnfully convoluted as many thought, and I pretty much agree with Someone, but I thought that the plot wasn't hard follow (I watched DMC the night before so came in expecting some of the plot twists). I also think that the movie could have used some trimming like many of the "reconns" to the Dead Man's Chest related plot were not needed, and this movie's explination of Jack's behavior. Thats not even mentioning how this movie effectively threw away on of the best things from DMC...

Weakest of the three, IMO, and far more over the top than DMC. Yes, parts were bloated, and some aspects needed trimming.

That said, I still enjoyed it a great deal, and I'd recommend seeing it on the big screen.

(And what is it with Part 3s trying to cram way too much in this year? AWE did it, Spidey 3 did it, and from what I'm reading Shrek the Third does it as well.

This is not a good thing, Hollywood. :\)

Not as good as one but better then two. While some bits were more fanciful then two I think 2 was a little more over the top. I liked three better then I was thinking I would. It was the first of the three I thought Knightly actually looked attractive in parts. Most of the time she looks way to thin.
