D&D 5E Pixie's are pretty awesome

Croesus

Adventurer
The spell description says:
You summon fey creatures that appear in unoccupied spaces that you can see within range.
Choose one of the following options for what appears:
• One fey creature of challenge rating 2 or lower
• Two fey creatures of challenge rating 1 or lower
• Four fey creatures of challenge rating 1/2 or lower
• Eight fey creatures of challenge rating 1/4 or lower

So when cast, you can choose the CR. The GM then determines, within that CR, which specific creatures appear. Some - such as my GM - choose randomly among all the options. Other GMs may choose based on where you are, or other criteria.

Nothing in the rules forbids a GM from allowing the caster to choose specific creatures, but as your own post shows, doing so makes summoning spells far too good. Randomness tones down these spells, making still "pretty darn good", but not OP.

Oh I'm not so sure about that. Yeah they might have a +12 bonus to hit with their petite rapier and even get advantage when attacking from their butterfly steed, but they only do A SINGLE POINT OF DAMAGE.
