Planescape 3.5e - Cold Black Mask

"Don't make any sudden movements." Anthony says to his new 'friend' as well as the others in the room. "Oi, Hampton, down boy." He peeks around to door to get a better look at just what is going on in the room.

As the primes (and their Spiker companion) ready themselves for whatever may come, the heavy pounding on the door repeats itself, this time louder. From somewhere downstairs came the sudden sharp, unmistakable crack of splintering wood followed by another general crash. Whomever had been outside had just forced their way into the building.

Glancing past the shadowswyft and into the room, Anthony can see that his summoned fhorge -- "Hampton" -- had backed one of the thugs into a nearby corner and showed no interest in letting him go, despite the short dagger the thug waved in its direction. The other tough -- a shorter, half-elf looking basher with greasy black hair -- was stood nervously against the far wall, gripping Dinah by the nape of her neck and keeping her between him and the angry animal.

OOC: Nice maps. What's the cornered thug look like? I mean, what race is he and whatnot? I don't know what rolls you want to make for this but I'm hoping they'll impulsively comply with the only apparent voice of reason in the midst of this sudden chaos. Diplomacy +16, Bluff +11 Following standard diplomacy rules I'd rather not make my diplomacy attempt until I have a minute to talk.

Anthony calls out to Finn and Vezi in a concerned tone. "You ok in there? Ah sod it! Quick, drop your chivs, he likes ta eat shiny objects."

Pierce snaps out of sleep as mutterings in foreign languages, bashing, and crashing reach her ears. Small metallic shrieks sound as she raises her metallic body from her bed of armor and chain, and she stoops to grab her shield and flail. Putting on her armor was always a production, and not something to do if battle was immenent. And sleeping in it would have caused her to be fatigued and generally ill-prepared to defend her client. Who was now thoroughly vanished by his own arcane prowess. Well, she hoped it was his own arcane prowess and not someone else's.

"Sir Cinder, I would recommend you don't get between me and the door, as I would hate to run into you," she says softly, eyes fixed on the door to their room. Her body spikes rustle and creak as she flexes her muscles for the coming fight. "I don't think I have time to strap on my armor either, considering the noises from downstairs."

Boarding House Siege - Round 1

Like lightning, István darted out the window and bounded to the rooftop in a few short leaps. A quick circuit around the upper perimeter of the Slumbering Lamb revealed nothing.
Still moving quickly, István leaped to the ground and made his way to the exterior entrance of the boarding house. The surrounding streets were eerily quiet in the comparison to the commotion coming from the Lamb's interior.
The front door had been smashed in and hung by a single hinge. Just inside, a hulking, armored-plated brute made its way through the initial dining area; although its back was to the little gnome, István could clearly see that it had two pairs of arms arranged front-to-back on its bulky body. In each four of its three-fingered hands, the creature grasped a wicked-looking flanged mace.

Beyond, a pair of rough-looking human thugs in patchwork leathers lurked just past the dining room, in the commons proper; they both wielded short, heavy-looking knives.

The upstairs room now empty save for him, Hagen cleared his throat. "I'll just wait here, then," he muttered to no one in particular.

The tiefling proprietor stood her ground in the common room, a short stave in one hand. She bared her teeth at the intruders and swung the club menacingly. "Push off now, berks," she threatened, "'Afore I call for the Hardheads."

Cang Lao stood alert near his bunk, ready for anything. The two other guests crouched nervously against the far walls of the common room, prepared to bolt at the first sign of violence.

The might of Heironeous bolstering him, Heinrich leads the way down the stairs. Although he could hear and see the proprietor warn someone off, his view was blocked by the walls of the kitchen.

One of the human toughs sneered in reply to the tiefling's warning. Both he and his companion held their weapons like they knew how to use them. "We're just here to collect some prime berks," he hissed. "Don't get in our way, and things won't have ta get ugly-like." Meanwhile, Pierce moved into position behind Heinrich with flail and shield in hand, prepared to do what she did best.

Unseen to anyone, Sindr waited for Heinrich and Pierce to lead the way before joining them downstairs, as well.

Anthony Orchidaceae said:
"You ok in there? Ah sod it! Quick, drop your chivs, he likes ta eat shiny objects."

The half-elf and the other thug -- a spikey-haired human, by the looks of him -- looked from the irritated fhorge, to the aasimar, then to each other. Muted clanks signaled their blades hitting the floor. (Bluff check = 28)

Dinah, still held captive by the half-elf, tried to catch Anthony's attention.
Be careful, she slowly mouthed.

Anthony caught movement out of the corner of his eye; Kalel had apparently woken and was quietly, (for a bariaur) cautiously moving forward. He cocked one eyebrow at Anthony in askance. (ooc: Kalel is currently at D5.)

Heinrich strides forwards, a visible aura of golden light surrounding him and glinting off his heavy armor as he moves with unexpected speed. Stepping in front of the Tiefling with a perfunctory "Excuse me, Ma'am," he faces the thugs, incanting a prayer in Celestial as a glittering longsword, twin to Heinrich's, materializes to strike at the most dangerous-looking of the opponents.

[sblock=Celestial]"Invincible one, lend my thy sword that I might strike down thine enemies."[/sblock]

[sblock=OOC]Heinrich will move to H3 and, if he can still the four-armed guy, cast Spiritual Weapon on him. It lasts 4 rounds and attacks each round (first attack happens right as I summon it) at +9 for 1d8+1 force damage. If he can't see that guy, he'll move to G3 instead and attack the first thug at +11 for 1d8+4 damage.[/sblock]

Without turning his head, Anthony holds his arm out to Kalel behind the door, indicating that he should not approach. He looks in the opposite direction from Kalel as he asks, "Vezi, you alright?" He then glances at Dinah, and smiles slightly. "There're a few other guests here, who might not twig to your presence... like that Bariaur, Kalel." He says in a warning voice, nudging the Shadowswyft in the back with his hand to try to guide him back into the room. "You'd be canny to keep the door closed."

Sindr quickly but quietly patters down the stairs and across the room, one invisible hand in his component pouch and the other extending, fingers spread, ready to cast a spell on a moment's notice.

[sblock=OOC]Move to K2. Ready an action to cast Sindr's charged bolt of the three thunders (single target, auto-hit, 4d6 damage half electricity/half sonic, 1d6 damage half/half if Sindr fails to penetrate spell resistance, reflex DC 17 half damage, fort DC 17 or be stunned for 1 round, if stunned reflex DC 17 or be knocked prone, Sindr is dazed) if the four-armed fellow attacks the proprietress. As long as he remains invisible, Sindr will allow any character to pass through his space.

Visual for Sindr's charged bolt: Sindr pulls a handful metal filings from his spell component pouch and chants a quick evocation, appearing suddenly as a fist-sized chunk of rock covered with crackling sparks of electricity streaks from his hand. The rock impacts its target with a crack of thunder, leaving the four-armed figure and Sindr both reeling from the force of the spell.[/sblock]

Pierce's body spikes bristle with anticipation of combat as Heinrich steps forward and begins the fight.

Apparently his philosophy is 'a best defense is a good offense,' she thought, setting her shoulder behind her spikey shield. Though not what I would have recommended in this situation.

Pierce steps forward, into view of who the proprietor is talking to, in order to better see who she's up against. Spying that so far the odds seemed to be three against two, possibly four if one counted the tiefling (which Pierce didn't), she set her eyes on the toughs, her stance and body language making it crystal clear that any movement of aggression towards her would be rewarded by impalation.

OOC: [sblock]Move to K4 and do an Intimidate check[/sblock]

OOC: What are the lighting conditions inside the boarding house main room? Had the lights been doused for the night?

István glances nervously at the riven boarding house door before turning his attention to the four-armed brute inside the hall. The wayfarer licks his lips anxiously beneath his heavy scarf, momentarily uncertain of what to do. He'd shown no hesitation in attacking the imp earlier; slaying fiends was the duty of any righteous soul. But these beings were something different; akin to highwaymen or thugs. Attacking or slaying them might arouse the ire of the local constabulary after all. Still, they'd needlessly forced their way inside and were openly threatening the good innkeeper. He could not in good conscience stand by and let her be hurt...

Moving stealthily (Hide +23, Move Silently +17, taking 10 on both skill checks if possible), István darts through the door and beneath the nearest long table. Deftly making his way through the forest of chair legs, the wayfarer draws his crystal shard from the sheath at his back (drawing a weapon and moving to C3 while using the table as cover as a move-action). Taking aim, the gnome lashes out quickly at the four-armed troll's legs (Melee rapier +10, 1d4-1 +1d6, as a skirmish attack).

OOC: István will try to remain hidden under the table following his attack (Hide +23, -20 penalty for having attacked).
