Referring to deities as "gawds". :P

Too much God-damned Knights of the Dinner Table.

It helps my case that, in my accent, you can't even come close to pronouncing "gods" anything like "gawds". Makes it seem even sillier.
You must have a very kewl accent.

I've noticed that in four game groups I'm involved with, I'm the only person who ever takes 10 or 20. I think it has more to do with a love of rolling dice, actually.

Heh..In my case, its that I tend to forget that you can...until the DM reminds me. (Usually after I've already rolled.)

I'm beginning to think a lot of you would enjoy playing in my games. Heck, as DM, I'm lucky if I can remember all the details of the last session, let alone penalize my players for it. (I tend to wing it a lot, so my prepared notes only go so far.)

On the other hand, more than one of these apply to me as well. I tend to switch characters a lot when I'm playing, I just get bored easy with the same character for very long. I promise, I'm trying to work on it! Might be why I end up DMing so often after just a few sessions as player...

I'll throw in on the requiring players to know info idea.

I think its a matter of balance. First of all, players in general should always cut dms a break. Players do 5% of the work that a dm does in making a session happen, we dms have a 1000 things more to think about and remember. And yes, we even have other lives and jobs and all of that stuff the players do too:)

So I have no problems with dms requiring their players to remember some facts. I know your here to have fun, but hey so am I, is it so hard to ask you to write down some of the things I told you, when it may have taken my hours to come up with the stuff in the 1st place?

But on the other hand, dms shouldn't penalize players for forgetting things unless they obviously make no effort to remember them. There's a big difference between hearing a guy say something in a nice comfy room, then hearing something in a spooky dungeon where the slightest mistake might kill you. But I think that's the key for me, effort. If the players make an effort, do try to write things down, then I have no problems helping them remember. But its very unfair for players to expect a dm to recall everything anytime they want because they are too lazy to write the stuff down.

Same here, that always bugs me, a lot. I always presumed people did that because for some reason the word "gods" was offensive to them (presumably religious reasons which I won't touch on further here). If that's so, there is no need to invent a butchered spelling of a word, please use another term.

Might I suggest calling them "deities" rather than "gawds" if you aren't going to call them "gods", please?

Lots of good ideas here. Unfortunatley I recognize quite a few of these.

Here is one from my onlin e games

The Backposter

This guy is quiet, and rarely posts anything that is clear and concise. At least UNTIL combat happens, or a random danger targets his character and then he says, "but I would have put up these spells..." and such. Or I would have been there, not here. and so on ad infinatum.

Quite annoying

My Character Wouldn't Agree To This

The entire group is ready to head off, except the one player who feels like it's against his character to go along with the plot and leaves. While I'm all for playing the character concept you want to play, teamwork and compramise are a big part of the game.

As a DM this is the one I hate the most!! I mean if agree to play in a game with other characters and that it is a game, then make a character that is agreeable to be with other characters in the group. So if everyone is playing slightly less than honest rogue-like characters then don't make a paladin.

Then how about "divine beings?"

Well, now that doesn't quite work since that would include lots of stuff that isn't gaw... errr, divinities. :p

Hrm, perhaps Worshipped.... naw. Damn, gods really does work the best.
