I think the general public LOVES PrC books, just as much as monstah books.

Yeah, but how much does the public still love monster books? I just finished working on one with KenzerCo and when I tell people, the typical response is "Why do I need another monster book."

Obviously my response is "I wrote this one, so it's going to be better!" but MM, MM2, CC, CC2, Monsternomicon, Tome of Horrors and now Dangerous Denizens, if hadn't helped write it, I'd be suspicious myself.

Funny I LOVE monster books, no matter who does them. (Well not FFE) But I also wrote a monster book too. CC3. But I don't advertise that one just yet since I still got the Player's Guide to Wizards, Bards and Sorcerers to toot my horn about.

Never have enough monsters... Never know when you'll see that one critter that will launch an entire campaign just on concept alone...

Don't forget Denizens of Darkness, Fiend Folio, Minions, Creatures of Rokugan, The green ronin ones, Necromantic Lore, Book of Templates, etc.

And upcoming there is Penumbra Bestiary, Creature Collection III, Gaming Frontiers Monsters, etc.

I like the fact that there can be lots of critters that I don't know as a player (who has gamed since the 80s) or that my players don't know (who have likewise gamed since the 80s).

One of the co-DMs in the campaign I'm playing in was saying a while ago how frustrated he was that there was little surprise in monsters since the PCs were so experienced. I lent him Minions and he now has a plethora of critters that the experienced PC shifter has never even heard of.

Similarly, I haven't even looked in MM2 or Fiend Folio, so when the DM pulls these out it is a neat completely new experience for me (except for the converted ones).

In a related vein, just picked up Fiend Folio. So far I think there may yet be a Dark Stalker PC in one of my games in the Scarred Lands. (I figure if it's in Tome of Horrors, I can let it slide to be in Fiend Folio too and thus in the Scarred Lands.)

CC,

Hey I can dream can't? I mean if a Demonologist can summon fiends, why couldn't I have a fighter/-insertname- be able to summon Hurors? ;) *is kidding*

My comments:

Archer of the Steppes: A berserk archer seems like a kinda silly idea.

Chain Legionnaire: The idea of a whole PrC, let alone a whole "Legion", dedicated to the Spiked Chain is a really silly idea.

Knight of the Oak: "Living oaken armor" intrigues me. Damned if I know what a Jordeh is, though.

Lodge-warrior: Well, it's colorful. But kung-fu woodelves?

Ragewitch: A berserk sorceress seems like a kinda silly idea. And the name blows.

I don't really like the large number of PrCs devoted to single weapons, especially such odd ones. Or the spell-like abilities that a lot of them seem to get. Or the old "when you get to be a really good X, you can get magical abilities related to your profession." Like, being a really good falconer lets you see through the bird's eyes. Yeah, sure.

Still, I'll definitely give it a flip-through. The Archer of Steppes might be a pretty cool fit for my gnomish wardog knight. :D

EDIT: When I wrote this, I thought that the PrCs in the book were general, rather than intended for a specific campaign world. A lot of the things I mentioned make a lot more sense now. Sorry if I offended.

Jordeth is a prestige class from R&R2. They are also bonded druids and/or rangers to treants.

As for the kung-fu wood elves, you've yet to meet a Scarred Lands Wood Elf. :) They are pretty kung-fu esque. ;)
