D&D 5E Players Handbook Expanded Cover Art

I contend that if this was selected as the cover art of any of the core rulebooks, it also would have been chewed up and spit out by the Internet peanut gallery.
oh, sure, anything would… my point was that I do not think it would fare much worse than the cover we got

in case people might think that the artwork I designed and had commissioned wasn't an original idea.
I mean, it's WotC's D&D cartoon characters--it's not an original idea. However, you are using that IP within the terms of the DMs Guild, so that's not a problem at all. The DMs Guild is there to give you access to WotC's IP. It's all good.

By original idea, I meant using the D&D cartoon characters. At that time I conceptualized them being old and adventuring and had the art commissioned, they were not being used at all in any of the recent editions. The D&D movie wasn't even out yet as well.

But I know what you mean. I actually got the idea after watching that Brazilian car commercial that featured the D&D cartoon heroes. :)

I was so focused on the picture it didn't even register until you pointed it out. Yeah, @Nixlord - spill the beans on this one. What can we expect in this book (if in just broad strokes)?

It's going to be an accessory to the PHB 2024. It will have the following:
  • 3-4 classes with at least 6 subclasses each
  • 4-5 subclasses for each official class
  • extra species
  • extra backgrounds
  • extra feats (especially 1st level feats)
  • extra spells
  • extra weapons
  • new mechanic: perks ('talents')

in general I really like the cover. The nostalgia value speaks to me obviously and it is technically well done. However, I do think the overall image is a bit dark. As someone you rarely adventures in dungeons, it doesn’t quite suit my tastes. Nice work overall though.

Also, who is the artist (or did I miss it in the OP)

Brian "Tots" Valeza, a regular WotC artist.

I know, and my statement stands. Tyler Jacobson who did the cover art for the 2024 is a very talented and award winning artist. Comparing his hard work to AI is an insult. I expect better from the creative minds in these boards. I guess I shouldn’t have.
and?
Talented people can still make works that some people really do not like.

Ridley Scott is a great movie director, but that fact will never make Alien: Covenant a good movie. It's horrible.
