Please help a Call of Cthulhu newboy!

The Great Sage

First Post
I say newboy as I dislike the term "newbie"

Anyway...;)

I just got the CoC book a few days ago and I have been a bit taken aback by the firearm rules.

Basically my question is:

Do all firearms suffer negative modifier to their attack roll?

It just seems a bit strange to me, but hey! Help me out here guys!

Cheers,

The Great Sage, Equal of Heaven.

edit: damn spelling ;)

It takes into account that MOST people don't have knowledge of firearms. Not to mention that it is easier to aim then fire, but if you pull the firearm up quickly and attempt to fire more than one round you will probaly miss alot due to recoil. Even to people that are familiar with firearms, they don't attempt to shoot more than once. Another point is that in combat you will be moving to avoid being hit jst as your enemy will be moving to avoid being hit.

Mate, that doesn't really help.

If I were to fire, say a handgun once, I would not take any negative modifers because of the "standard" classification? Correct?

Now if I were to fire the same handgun using the "standard" classification, I would suffer a -6 penalty to hit for both shots?

Correct?

Please correct me!

Please correct me!

Why, have you been naughty? :D

To my knowledge, a single shot attack with a handgun will be a standard attack with no penalty as long as the character in question is proficient with the weapon. Nonproficiency or long range can cause a penalty on even a single shot. Otherwise, the only time the modifiers on page 80 of the rulebook apply to multiple shots per round.

I don't know of any specific recoil rules, I think they were just built into the multifire rules.

You may be getting thrown on the terminology. Weapons can be classified as Standard, Multifire, or Autofire, but the penalties don't begin to apply until multiple shots are fired. It just so happens that the guns are classified in ways as to be associated with what they're capable of, but they're also capable of single shots, which are standard attacks.

Hope this clears things up.

Thank you, Mr Ghost. The rest of you can rot in hell. It's nice when people help you, it's not nice when people try to come off more intelligent than they actually are.

Carry on!

;)

Oh Byron beat me too it! I hope that cleared things up. If you have any more questions about COC there are several good people on here that can hopefully answer your questions.

*Hoping I am not one of those that are going to Rot in Hell  * :D
