D&D 5E Please help me understand this build.

It also might have been overlooked, but you're stuck pumping Cha to keep your eldritch blast attack values up (and damage with agonizing blast). For the abjurer's hit points, you're much better off with deep gnome taking the feat for nondetection at will.

Hiya.

As a DM, I've always held to the standard of "No same-core class combos". I've been doing this since 1e when I made a Ranger/Paladin that was, simply put, crazy-nutzo-powervulz. Since that day, I do not allow 'same core' multiclassing. In other words, you can't have a Sorcerer/Wizard, or a Cleric/Druid, or a Fighter/Barbarian, etc. This restriction made even more sense with the advent of 3.x/PF...and I'm happily carrying it over into 5e (assuming I even allow multiclassing...still not sure on that).

That said, I really don't see the combo(s) listed above as game-breaking. This does give me hope for allowing multiclassing at my table. Playing a character ever weekend for a year or two just so you can say "See! I have an extra 45hp and can do lot's of damage...well, at least two or three times a day, anyway! I rock!" seems kind of...well, I won't say it. It's just not that "wow" as far as I can tell. I can say that it's a great way to waste two years of playing a fantasy RPG as far as interesting, character-driven role-playing potential is concerned. I'm sure someone can make a good and interesting "Sorlock", but, really, if they are doing that for mechanical reasons first, then tacking on a "RP reason" to justify it...er...o-o-k-a-a-y. Whatever floats yer boat I guess!

Yowsers? A thousand?

Mind you, at that point aren't you basically throwing money at things to make it go away?

On the one hand, there is a lot of money in the DMG treasure tables. (Enough that I'm still working out the economic implications.) On the other hand, you can never have too much money. Symbol is good defensively, but if I have 4000 gold that I'm trying to convert to power, I'd rather turn it into 24 elemental-months of Earth Elemental/Invisible Stalker service than 4 Symbols scrawled in a dragon lair somewhere that the dragon might not even stumble over before I kill it. However. If I don't think I can kill it, then I will sneak in and lay a bunch of Symbols of Insanity everywhere (6000 gold) before making myself a Simulacrum (1500 gold) to Bestow Curse on the creature and lead it into my nest of Symbols, at which point my five Air Elementals (5000 gold) will beat it to death. For an investment of 12,500 gold I expect to make 14,000 gold and 1750 platinum, for a tidy profit net of 19K gold plus any magical items. If it's an adult red dragon I will net roughly 200K instead.

So at that point, I guess I'm throwing money at things in order to make more money. :)
