I personally love the Ghostwalker. I've used them as PC's and as NPC/villains. The key element of the Ghostwalker to take into consideration is whether you play in a game where you fight the same opponents multiple times - do the GW's enemies get away after a fight, allowing him to come back and kick butt the second time around?

I love the Etherealness/Shadow walk abilities (don't forget to look at the errata which bumps up the helaing rate while Shadow walking).

If you like a kick ass fighter with a little Spaghetti Western/man with no name flavor, try this one out. I like it.

It's a very good prestige class. Its abilities are also excellent for a recurring villain in a campaign. For PCs, the fact that most bonusses only accrue after having lost a battle to a foe (or had the foe escape after hurting you badly) makes them far less useful. For NPCs, on the other hand, losing battles is what they usually do. . . .

I pretty much agree with the other posters. As an NPC prestige class, it probably rates an 8 or 9 in my book. As a PC prestige class, it only ranks about a 3, unless you are playing a one-DM and one-player game, in which case it would be incredibly fun and cool.

Power-wise, it definitely stacks up well.

The PrC is only less useful for PCs if they are of the "never retreat until dead" variety. The Ghostwalker is a very fun PrC, and I think it has great uses for NPCs and PCs both.

It's irredeemably dumb. The "mysterious loner" archetype may be widespread, but it doesn't make for a sensible prestige class, any more than does the "adventurer" archetype.

I think it's a damn cool idea, but almost useless as a PC class. How often do you really run away from things? I mean, sure, you do once in a while, but it's not a common occurance in most campaigns (or if it is, it's because you're totally getting your butt kicked, and no few pluses are going to help).

So... damn cool idea, but it just doesn't work out as a PC class.

I agree with Hong. -- I should just put that in my sig :)
