D&D 4E Poll: Who Would LIke to See the Drow in 4E PHB?

There is a lot of jibba jabba about the races in the PHB, from the old (dwarf, elf, halfing) to the newer (gnome, half-orc, half-elf), to the newest (tiefling, warforged, changeling.) Everyone has strong and well-informed opinions on what races belong in the PHB and which ones do not, and the discussion has been a lot of fun to follow. For me, anyway.

I am most curious about the drow, and how everyone feels about it. I know that in the grand scheme of things, they are specific to the Forgotten Realms campaign setting...but they have been around for a long time, and a lot of gamers (like me) have been using them since the days of AD&D...at least as long as we have been using the half-orc, half-elf, and gnome.

I think that the drow's longevity in the D&D game merits addition to the 4E PHB. Who's with me?

As long as they are equal to normal elves that is fine. The 3.5 ones were clunky as all hell.

They're popular, but unworkable as a PC race in 3e due to LA. Probably not popular enough to make PHB1, but I guess they will be in PHB2.

True, but with the new mechanic for races will make them workable since level 1, so at least they are a candidate for "dark races" in the PHB.

I'd like to see Drow, Tiefling, Orcs and maybe even Lizardfolks in the PHB1, but I won't mind too much if they don't make it.

As long as they are reworked to be mechanically balanced with other races, I think including them as a 'default' race would make many players happy.

But I also hope the designers re-examine drow special abilities. Dancing lights isn't really interesting, for example.

More like BECAUSE the drow remain a popular race, we've had years of internet bitching. Actually the bitching started before the Internet became a popular tool. As a matter of fact, the griping started exactly two weeks after the first Unearthed Arcana came out back in 1985.

And the Internet bitching will continue for many years to come because I just plain like complaining about drow.

If they were balance mechanically, it would also decrease my bitching. Many of the problem players would find something else to play.

But I also hope the designers re-examine some of the drow abilities. Dancing lights isn't really interesting, for example.

Dancing lights are good for setting up ambushes. Something a typical drow does a lot of.
